About the Practice

Experience, Understanding, and a Practical Approach

I've spent much of my professional life working with people facing difficult circumstances. Those experiences have shaped my approach to counseling and reinforced my belief that meaningful progress begins with understanding, honest conversation, and practical guidance.

My Approach to Treatment

My practice focuses primarily on obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and related conditions.

I use Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), an established, evidence-based treatment that helps people gradually confront their fears and resist the compulsive behaviors that reinforce them.

I also incorporate Inference-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (I-CBT), an approach that examines how obsessive doubts develop and how people can learn to distinguish imagined possibilities from what they actually know through their senses and experience.

In addition to these therapeutic methods, I sometimes draw on classical philosophy, particularly Stoicism, for its practical insights into uncertainty, acceptance, and the distinction between what we can and cannot control.

I stay informed about developments in OCD treatment through continuing professional education and my involvement in the OCD community.

A Background Beyond Private Practice

Before entering full-time private practice in 2014, I worked as a counselor in the men's prison system, a therapist in adolescent treatment centers, and a public school teacher working with at-risk students.

My professional background also includes work as a newspaper reporter, a college speech instructor, and a Superior Court investigator.

These varied experiences have given me an appreciation for the complexity of human behavior and the different ways people respond to adversity. My own experience with OCD has also contributed to that perspective.

What You Can Expect

I believe counseling should be a collaborative process. My role is not simply to offer advice, but to help you examine the difficulties you're experiencing, recognize patterns that may be keeping you stuck, and develop ways to address them.

I value openness and honest discussion, and I welcome questions about my approach. There is no expectation that you arrive with all the answers—or even a clear understanding of the problem.

I offer appointments in my office and, when appropriate, home visits. I also try to keep my fees reasonable so that counseling remains accessible.

If you're considering counseling or have questions about how I work, I welcome you to get in touch.

Ground rules center on absolute confidentiality, dignity, and practical clarity, helping you find your footing when everything else feels uncertain.
